Bart Gits teaches according to his own created Shizen-method. Shizen is Japanese for nature, this method is based on natural movements
so there is no chance of getting hurt.
In the contrary, by playing taiko your body will become more supple and strong without you noticing it.
On top of that a lot of attention is paid to the role taiko plays in every one's personal path in life, this is also a part of the Shizen-method.
During the weekly classes each individual receives a lot of attention, because each persons road is different and unique. Traveling this road in group rather than alone is an enriching experience. The threshold to start playing taiko is very low : active or passive knowledge of music is unnecessary, but the learning curve is near endless.
Taiko enriches your life, you meet new people active and full of passion for music and movement. Taiko gives back a lot more energy than you put in, join us for a class and you will understand what we mean.
How to start ?
You can join the beginners group on any given date. Each session lasts 1,5 hours and consists of a well-balanced warming-up, taiko-instruction and cool-down.

A taikoworkshop takes 5 hours including breaks, this might seem quite long but is over in no time !
Workshops are open for everybody, including absolute beginners. Students will learn basic techniques, how to treat drum and sticks, basic rhythms, the philosophy behind taiko, and so much more.
During a taikoworkshop one taiko piece is looked at in detail, so it can be played by everyone at the end of the workshop. For more advanced players workshops are a perfect opportunity to work at knowledge and technique.
As with other Japanese martial arts the differences in the group are an important motor and motivator for all participants.
